Limerence can feel like love turned up too loud. Your mind replays every message, every glance, every possible meaning. The person becomes a source of hope, anxiety, fantasy, and emotional reward.

You are not ridiculous for feeling it. But you also do not have to let it run your life.

Why limerence feels so powerful

Limerence often feeds on uncertainty. A little attention becomes a high. Distance becomes withdrawal. Mixed signals become puzzles. Your brain starts treating the person like an answer, even when their behavior has not earned that much power.

Separate fantasy from evidence

Write two lists. First: what you imagine could be true. Second: what their actual behavior has shown. This is not to shame yourself. It is to give reality equal volume.

Reduce the fuel

  • Stop checking their social media.
  • Limit conversations that restart the fantasy.
  • Remove reminders that keep the loop alive.
  • Redirect your body with movement, sleep, food, and routine.
  • Talk to someone grounded instead of someone who romanticizes the chase.

Ask what the fantasy is protecting

Sometimes limerence is less about the person and more about what they represent: being chosen, being rescued, feeling alive, escaping grief, proving desirability, or avoiding the pain of your real life.

The Cut the Cord clarity check

Attraction is allowed. Desire is allowed. But desire should not become a spiritual emergency every time someone gives you inconsistent attention. Your peace matters more than the fantasy.

What I would keep

You do not have to hate them to release the obsession. You only have to choose reality, one small decision at a time, until your nervous system remembers that you belong to yourself.
