How to Support a Friend Dealing With Parent-Child Alienation

When a friend is dealing with parent-child alienation or parent-child contact problems, your support matters. But support is not the same as telling her what to do, dismissing the complexity, or turning her pain into gossip.

What Helps

  • Believe the pain without pretending you know every fact.
  • Use language that does not inflame the legal conflict.
  • Encourage documentation and qualified support.
  • Avoid blaming her for a child’s distance.
  • Help her stay grounded instead of spiraling.

What Does Not Help

Do not say, kids know the truth, as if time alone repairs everything. Do not tell her to just be nice. Do not assume the court will understand the pattern without documentation and strategy.

Support With Boundaries

A good friend can listen, remind her of her strength, help organize practical next steps, and encourage professional guidance. You do not need to become her lawyer, therapist, or investigator to be deeply useful.

What I would keep

Clarity is not cruelty. You can tell the truth about what happened, protect your peace, and still choose the next right step with dignity.
